Olympic Worldcup 2012 - Kieler Woche - Kiel GER - first races today with USA and CAN participants
Today begins the Olympic part of the 2012 Kiel Week, the last event of the ISAF Olympic Worldcup, ending next Wednesday. The Women Matchracers are not competing, and it is not certain, whether the RS:X windsurfers, with only a small number on the entrylists, will be allowed to start. The participants enrolled are mostly development teams and amateurs, as the Olympic candidats apparently preferred to prepare their most important competition of the last four years either already in England, or at a 'secret' place. With Andy Maloney NZL in the Lasers, Rohart/Rambeau FRA in the Starboats, Deniss Karpak EST and Brendan Casey AUS in the Finns, as well as Tatjana Droszdowskaja BLR in the Lasers Radial, some top athletes have nevertheless chosen to do their last racing tune-up at the traditional Kiel Week. US participants are Caleb Paine, Gordon Lamphere and Joshua Revkin in the Finn, Chris Barnard Laser, Frederick/Strammer 49er, Beigel-Vosbury Star. For Canada, Martin Robitaille Finn is on the entry list.
Today and tomorrow, fresh westerly winds will prevail. The lists of participants and the event-website.
