Olympic Worldcup 2011 - Trofeo Princesa Sofia - Palma ESP - Day 5 - the first winners are known
Already before the Medal Races of today, the first winners are known after yesterdays races in a difficult unconstant seabreeze. The Olympic Champions Ian Percy/Andrew Simpson GBR in the Starboats seem well prepared for their home Olympics 2012, as - after one year off due to matchracing duties - they are back dominating the fleet in Palma with a 27 points advantage before the Medal Race. The best options for the other medals have Negri/Voltolini ITA, two points ahead of Grael/Ferreira BRA and 8 points on Stanjek/Kleen GER. A British victory also in the Finns, as the only candidate to defeat the Olympic Champion Ben Ainslie GBR - he too absent as matchracer in 2010 - is Giles Scott GBR 14 points behind. Thomas Le Breton FRA follows on rank 3. Good chance for the overall win in their class today have also Charbonnier/Mion FRA in the 470 men with a lead on Leboucher/Garros FRA of 9 points. Mantis/Kagialis GRE follow as 3rd. Another French victory can be expected in the 49ers with Emanuel Dyen/Stéphane Christidis FRA leading with 10 points over Sibello/Sibello ITA and Norregaard/Lang DEN as 3rd already 44 points back fighting with Delle-Karth/Resch AUT for rank 3. A 8 points lead before the Medal Race for Jo Aleh/Bianca Barbarich NZL in the 470-women with Ai Kondo/Wakako Tabata JPN and Cohen/Vered ISR on the ranks 2 and 3. In the windsurfers, the situation seems to be clear for Marina Alabau ESP in the RS:X women lieading with 11 points on Charline Picon FRA, and Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED 6 points in the RS:X-men. Nick Dempsey GBR, Tom Ashley NZL, Ricardo Santos BRA and Byron Kaokkalanis GRE have all their chances for a medal. In the Women Match Race, today's final will be between Silja Lehtinen FIN and Sally Barkow USA. Anna Tunnicliffe USA and Claire Leroy FRA will sail the petite final for rank 3. The official report and the video of the day. The medal races can be followed today live on the Internet.
