Yesterday was day one at the 420 / 470 Junior European Championship 2012 on Lake Garda, welcomed by a moderate 12-15 kn 'Ora' breeze. 250 teams from 31 nations and 3 continents participate. In the 470 men, Floris and Laurens Van de Werken NED are on the first place, ahead of the tied Falcatelli/Francioli ITA and Sivitz/Farneti ITA. Peponnet/Berthier FRA are 4th. Robinson/Hume USA follow on rank 54. In the 470 women, both races were won by Ewa Szczesna/Irwina Mrozek POL, in front of Freeman/Tomsett GBR and Bochmann/Panuschka GER at equal points. Leaders among the 113 420s are the ISAF Youth Sailing World Champions Ilaria Paternoster/Benedetta Di Salle ITA (Girls) and David and Alex Charles ESP (Boys) with the same number of points, followed by Francesco Rebaudi/Pietro Canepa ITA on rank 3. Eenkema van Dijk/McDonough USA, 20th, and Megan Grapengeter-Rudnick/Abigail Rohman USA 22th are the two best among 6 American teams.
