Star - World Championship 2012 - Hyères FRA - Final results - Scheidt/Prada BRA defend Worlds title, CAN and USA ranks 18 and 21
The final decision for the Worlds title was made yesterday in the last race sailed in a 8 to 12 kn breeze the Bay of Hyères. The defending champions Robert Scheidt/Bruno Prada BRA controlled their unique opponents for the title, the Olympic Champions Ian Percy/Andrew Simpson GBR, uncompromisingly, and sailed them down the fleet. The Brazilians earned herewith his third Starboat Worlds title. The Bronze medal went to Michael Hestbaek/Claus Olesen DEN, who came back to the Star last November only, and mastered the difficult conditions at the event perfectly. O'Leary/Burrows IRL and Lööf/Salminen SWE, two more favorites for Olympic medals, follow on the ranks 4 and 5. The other successful nations for an 2012 Olmypic berth in addition to Hestbaek/Olesen DEN were Hamish Pepper/Jim Turner NZL (7th), Emilios Papathanasiou/Antonios Tsotras GRE (9th) and Marin and Dan Lovrovic CRO. With only one, respectively two points back, Echevarri/Rodriguez ESP and Spitzauer/Habermüller AUT will miss the Olympic Regatta. Clarke/Björn CAN finished on the 18th place, Mendelblatt/Fatih USA are 21st. The final results, the event-website and the Video.
