The qualification phase of the Laser Worlds ended yesterday with the races 7 and 8 again sailed in very difficult light winds. The first 56 athletes continue the finals in the Goldfleet as from today. Outstanding also yesterday Tom Slingsby AUS, extending his lead to over 20 points. The new second-ranked is Andreas Geritzer AUT ahead of a closely packed chaser group with Tonci Stipanovic CR, David Wright CAN, Juan Maegli GUA and Andrew Maloney NZL, and even Simon Grotelüschen GER as 8th is only 9 points behind rank 2. The Olympic Champion Paul Goodison GBR advanced - despite of his DNE, the non-discardable disqualification, on rank 22, allowing him to continue the Championship in the Goldfleet.
While David Wright CAN is well positioned to fight for the Silver or Bronze medal, Charlie Buckingham USA - up again on rank 31 - as well as the Canadians Lee Parkhill 18th and Chris Dold 32nd are at least qualified for the Goldfleet. The results, the daily report and the video of the day.
