Laser Standard - World Championship 2012 - Boltenhagen GER - Day 1, only David Wright CAN, 12th, on track
Split in three fleets, the Lasers sailed their first two races of the 2012 World Championship yesterday in a 10-15 kn breeze. Winning both races of his fleet, the defending World Champion Tom Slingsby AUS has already taken the overall lead, followed by Tonci Stipanovic CRO and Rutger Schaardenburg NED on the ranks 2 and 3. Rasmus Mygren SWE and Andreas Geritzer AUT are on the positions 4 and 5. Only five sailors succeeded to book two single-digit results yesterday in this highest competitive Olympic class. Already struggling however is the Olympic Champion Paul Goodison GBR, penalised twice for pumping and forced to abandon race 2. The best-ranked North-American sailor so far is David Wright CAN on the 12th place overall. There is room for improvement for the US Lasers with Robert Crane as best on rank 31 behind four Canadians. Ramon Gonzales PUR is 84th, Yanik Gentry MEX 128th.
