420 & 470 - Junior European Championship 2012 - Riva ITA - Day 6, Waddell/Fernberger US 6th
The 420/470 Junior Europeans continued yesterday on Lake Gard initially in a well established 'Ora' breeze, but a thunderstorm disturbed the situation and race two of the fleets had to be abandoned. Nothing is decided yet and the 470 Medal Race, as well as the final races of the 420s will be full of suspense.
Bad luck for the leaders of the 470 men Kevin Peponnet/Baptiste Berthier FRA, who had to abandon the race with a ripped out mainsheet roll. They have now an 11 points' backlog on the leading Simon Sivitz/Jas Farneti ITA before the Medal Race. Kavas/Kavas GRE are on rank 3, but Wood/Brayshaw GBR and Masilge/Klingenberg GER have chances for a Medal as well. In the 470 Girls, Annika Bochmann/Elisabeth Panuschka GER have taken the lead with a race win, followed by Lemaitre/Retornaz FRA 3 points behind. Szcsesna/Mrozek POL and Freeman/Tommsett GBR still have the possibility for the title in the Medal Race. Robinson/Hume USA are 28th in the Silverfleet (=68th overall).
5 points is the advantage of Guillaume Pirouelle/Valentin Sipan FRA on Giacomo Ferrari/Giulio Cabro ITA before the last races today in the 420s. Mpakatias/Christopulos GRE and Goedhart/Van Stekelenborg NED are on rank 3 at equal points. Waddell/Fernberger USA, down on rank 6, destroyed their chance for the podium with an OCS disqualification, and have now a heavy 24th place in their points account. Annabel Vose/Kristie Urwin GBR on rank 15 are the best Girls' team.
