The easterly trade winds have been freshening up further and the six teams are now progressing at high speeds above 20 kn straightly in the direction of Auckland. The most eastern boat 'Groupama' with Franck Cammas FRA is progressing the fastest and has now an advance of 84 miles on 'Puma' (Ken Read USA), who sailed 525 nautical miles at an average speed of 21.8 knots in a 24 period. With a 94 miles' backlog on the leader, 'Telefonica' with Iker Martinez ESP is now on rank 3. Several teams reported equipment damage and Chris Nicholson's 'Camper', now down on the 5th place, suffered the biggest breakdown last night when they tore their vital J2 headsail.
