Volvo Ocean Race 2011/2012 - Leg 1 - Day 17
The 15-20 kn trade winds in the South Atlantic push the Volvo 70 actually at speeds exceeding 20 kn. With the weather forecast announcing a depression from the west, this fast ride could well continue until Capetown. When and where this frontal system will arrive is not yet clear. Yesterday, the gaps between the yachts were slightly reduced. 'Telefonica' had a 14 miles' lead on 'Puma' this morning. 'Camper' NZL was 127 miles behind, and 'Groupama' reduced the backlog to 403 miles. The leading 'Telefonica has 2'200 miles left to the finish in Capetown, where the first arrivals are expected on the coming weekend. The race-viewer, the report of the day and the videos.
