Olympic Games 2012 - Weymouth GBR - Final Day
The last event of the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition ended yesterday with the Women Match Race, sailed in a solid 15 to 22 kn breeze, allowing not too many position changes, but with the boats most of the time in tight duels. Tamara Echegoyen/Sofia Toro/Angela Pumariego ESP finished as Olympic Champions winning with a 3-2 score. The crucial moment was in flight 3 with NZL leading, when the Kiwi helmswomen Olivia Price fell overboard during an unwanted gybing manoeuvre. Gold went finally to Spain, Silver to NZL, the fourth 2012 Olympic sailing medal for Team NZL. 3-1 winner of the Petit Final was Silja Lehtinen FIN taking the Bronze Medal defeating Ekaterina Skudina RUS.
