The 'Segelschule Thunersee' started its 2013 season on Easter with remarkably good sailing conditions, the 79th season, and the weather forecast for the coming days looks - finally - favorable.
The program has again been extended with new courses and services. Courses at all levels, from beginners to regatta sailors, are offered. The BERNEXPO AG exposition halls were the home port of the nautical industry in Switzerland during the past week. Happy visitors and satisfied exhibitors marked the 7th edition of SuisseNautic, the Swiss National Boat and Watersports Show, from February 16 to 24. The final report.

Last Saturday, SuisseNautic, the Swiss national boat show, opened its doors, and already on the first weekend of the 9 days' event, the halls were crowded with watersports' enthusiasts, interested to see the latest developments in boats and equipment, and enjoy entertainment and attractions (see video. The SuisseNautic 2013, the 7th National Boat and Watersport Show in Berne from February 16 to 24th is a must everybody interested in nautics. A full range of novelties and proven designs in yachts and equipment available in Switzerland will be exposed for the first time in four exhibition halls, and an attractive program of shows and presentations will entertain the visitors. The London Boat Show opened its doors on last Saturday, presenting the rich novelties in boats and equipment available in the UK. As part of the entertainment program, the Starboats will sail a UK National Championship on the Thames waters nearby the expostion halls. The sails of the Starboats will be decorated by established artists, to give a special touch to this event. At the start will be the GBR Olympic Silver Medalists Percy/Simpson GBR, Olympic Medalists of other boat classes and as the only non-English team Xavier Rohart FRA/Serge Pulfer SUI. The victory of the Dutch Xc-50 'Freeway' at the Atlantic Rally in the Division Cruising D - with Eugen Munz SUI, X-Yachts Switzerland in the team - crowned a successful 2012 for X-Yachts. The report. The highlight of the new year will be the World Championship of the X-35 in Malmö SWE in August, and the X-Yachts Goldcup 2013 end of July in Copenhagen. As usual the Racing Rules of Sailing are reviewed every four years after the Olympic Regatta and amended based of the submissions received by ISAF and approved by Council on the recommendations of the Racing Rules Committee. The English version of the RRS can be downloaded already. A French version is already available, the German version should be ready in January 2013. 92 200 visitors (2011 92 700) enjoyed the Watersports and Life Style Expositon in Friederichshafen from September 22 to 30 at the traditional INTERBOOT. The big interest of the visitors in 2012 novelties was not only visible in the seven halls but above all on the water with over 100 yachts ready for tests in the Interboot harbour on Lake Constance during the past nine days. Inspite of the rather unfriendly weather, tenthousands of spectator followed the sport and show events along the Friederichshafen shoreline. The vast majority of the 489 exhibitors commented positively on the results of the show and await also good past-Expo business in the coming weeks. The 51st INTERBOOT is full speed ahead after a successful opening over the past weekend. Shining boats in all exposition halls delighted the mood of the 35'000 visitors on these partly grey days and left them dreaming about the coming watersport season. A number of novelties are to admire within the halls and on the water. After a new record over the hour of 25,25 kn last week, the 10-meter experimental foiler-trimaran was on its way for another attempt around Lake Geneva, the 'Blue Ribbon'. The five-person team reached the upper end of the Lake at the Bouveret in only 1 hr 20 min, but shortly after, the boat crashed. The report (f).

While the Volvo Ocean Race 2012 is in its final phase with the Inport Race of Galway IRL, the planning for the next VOR taking place in two years, is already progressing at full steam. Two weeks ago, the new one-design monohull Volvo 65 was presented. And in this month of July already, the construction of the prototype will be initiated. In a unique joint venture, the experienced boatyards Décision (Switzerland), Green Marine (UK), Multiplast (France) and Persico (Italy) will build at least 8, possibly even 10 yachts together. A week ago, the first blu30 on the Lake of Lucerne has been handed over to the owner. Past Monday, the two big Event- and Marketing Agencies PCA and OC Thirdpole announced their merger to the new OC Sport, operating from bases in Switzerland, France and the UK, with the objective to become the most important agency for Outdoor-Sports. While ISAF with a non-consistent class policy and half-hearted strategieswith the ISAF Worldcup has failed to make Olympic Classes Sailing the pinnacle of the sport, there are more and more well-organized Marketing Agencies taking over the stage by establishing attractive events for a large general public. For almost 30 years, the Watersport Center Domaso ITA at Lake Come has been offering Windsurf- and Catamaran Courses, benefitting from the legendary fresh thermal breeze conditions on this pre-alpine lake. End of June, the first Bavaria-B/One will arrive in Switzerland. This smallest Bavaria model will offer much fun especially for young, sports-oriented sailors. With a slim liftable keel, road trailing is easy, and two persons can put the aluminium mast without problems by hand. The boat is also very handy on the water: a crew of three to four is ideal, but solo or two-person sailing is no problem. Plans are to launch this yacht as a one-design class first on Lake Constance, to be expanded internationally. Events with internaltional professionals are also planned. The 50th edition of the INTERBOOT closed the doors successfully two days ago in Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance GER. 92.700 visitors (previous year 95.400) strolled through the halls in spite of the hot summery weather during the past 9 days, enjoying the world of watersports. In addition to the exposition booths, the many exhibitors took advantage of the nearby lake to demonstrate one of the over 100 boats on the water. The German boating industry is in an upswing phase the year, and the INTERBOOT Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance, open until September 25th, underlines this fact with an impressive show of novelties. The Bundesverband Wassersportwirtschaft (BVWW), the national association for the watersports industry, had its press meeting yesterday announcing, that the production of Sail- and Powerboats will increase by 20% year/year in 2011 (on roughly 2'200 boats). Over 35'000 visitors were attracted by the 50th INTERBOOT in Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance over the last weekend, admiring the exposed boat and accessories, and showing interest in the many watersports services offered. Yesterday Friday, the second edition of the InWater BoatShow opened at the Bottighofen port with a considerably number of boat builders and sales agents present to demonstrate their latestet products right on the water. Originally, the diving roboters were developped for the US Navy, nowadays, it is in use e.g. in Australia searching smuggled goods off the coast.
