After the acquisition of the electronic instrument brand NEXUS in 2012, Garmin began to include Nexus equipment in their portfolio. An interesting novelty is the wireless wind indicator solar-energy driven with battery backup for the night, sold for the price of CHF 1'690, including a Garmin GMI 20 gauge and an over-ground speedo. Garmin has also developped a Connection Box allowing to hook Nexus products to a Garmin system, interesting for yachts equipped with Nexus features. The details.

The clean-up operation has started at the Laser Center Switzerland after the big fire of last Thursday, and - except a few Laser hulls - not much remained intact. Nevertheless, the operation will go on as soon as possible, and the first step is too find suitable premises. The Laser Center Website is uptodate to inform on the latest situation.
The regatta season 2014 on the Adriatic Sea will start in April with participants from different European nations with the Kornati Cup, the classic event among the series. Sport and fun come together in one of the most beautiful regions of Dalmatia, the Kornatis. The next Act will be the Business-Cup in May, a competition with the idea to have company business teams proving themselves on a yacht for team building purposes. The BMW Business Cup is a unique regatta partly with unexperiences sailors, and a mixture of individuals from 'simple' employees to top managers. Since early February, a new Spinnaker design for the Ponant has been available, especially developped for the new boats from the Roge Emonts Boatyard. Somewhat smaller but fuller in the top provide for a better stability when set. More information on the VM-website, including the latest price list.

As announced earlier, the A.W. Niemeyer Group starts now with the exclusive distribution of East Wave Optimists and 420s in Europe with the objective to provide youth sailors with reasonably priced quality dinghies, as proclamed in the company's Young Ocean-Strategy. East Wave-Boats are being built in the Ukraine and fine-tuned in Hamburg at the AWN boatyard. Sergiy Kalchenko, owner of the East Wave Boatbuilding Company, was one of the originators of the Ukranian 470 miracle around the century change and started his boat design and construction company six years ago. His youth boats Optimist and 420 are solid thanks to a very stiff hull, and well equipped with N1 Foils, Harken fittings and Liros ropes. The Optimist uses an Optiparts Blackgold-Rigg, the 420er a Selden/Proctor Zeta-Mast and a Selden/Proctor Olympus-Boom. The boats are on show at AWN in Zürich, including all equipment for Optimists and 420s.
