Olympic Worldcup 2012 - Sail for Gold - Weymouth GBR - Day 3
The announced low pressure system from the West filled in yesterday with winds exceeding 20 kn, and in all classes, the big-breeze specialists took the command even more as the discard result came into effect. Nathan Outteridge/Ian Jensen AUS are for the first time on top of the 49ers, thanks to two race wins. Dyen/Christidis FRA, winning the heats of the other 49er group advanced on position 2, while Evans/Powys GBR remains on the 3rd place. As from today, racing will take place in a Gold- and Silverfleeet. In the 470 men, Matthew Belcher/Malcom Page AUS lost the first place to Snow-Hansen/Saunders NZL at equal points. Patience/Bithell GBR follow on rank 3. Leader change also in the 470 women, where Lecointre/Geron FRA took the lead, with Aleh/Powrie NZL new on 2nd and Mills/Clarke GBR now on 3rd. In the Finns, the discarded result and the positions 1 and 2 yesterday increased Giles Scott's GBR lead over the English 2012 Olympian Ben Ainslie GBR to 6 points. Zach Railey USA is 3rd. No changes in the rankings of the windsurfers: Julien Bontemps FRA leads in the RS:X men, followed by Nick Dempsey GBR and Dorian Van Rijsselberge NED on the positions 2 and 3, while Zofia Klepacka POL continues to dominate the RS:X women, adding two more race wins, extending her lead on Marina Alabau ESP to 13 points. The new 3rd is Lee Korzits ISR. The Women Matchrace Goldfleet is now complete, as after Skudina RUS, McGregor GBR, Powrie AUS and Leroy FRA, Silja Lehtinen FIN and Anna Tunnicliffe USA have qualified directly for the next round. Fighting for the remaining two quarter-final places in the Repechage will probably be between Renee Groenveld NED, Tamara Echegoyen ESP and Stephanie Hazard NZL all with a 3-1 score sheet. In the Starboats, Percy/Simpson GBR took the lead just one point ahead of Scheidt/Prada BRA. O'Leary/Burrows IRL are down on 3rd. All results, the report and the video of the day.
