Industry News - Quantum Sail Design Group Restructures Spanish Operations
Executives from Quantum Sail Design Group met with employees in Spain
to announce restructuring plans for manufacturing facilities located in that region. The changes reflect not only the downturn in the Spanish and European economies, but also the investments and improvements made by the international sail maker in sail design and production over the past 30 months. Over the next 30-60 days, Quantum says (PDF), a membrane sail production facility and a service loft located in Binissalem (on Mallorca Island) will be closed resulting in the loss of twelve jobs. At the Villassar de Dalt loft (near Barcelona), fourteen production positions are being eliminated. High-tech sail production will continue at this location with a smaller workforce. The loft, founded by Toni Tió and acquired by Quantum in 2003, will also continue as the European headquarters for Quantum Sails.
