Two races were sailed on the last day of the Melges 24 Worlds on Lake Garda, but the northerly breeze as well as the Ora were quite capricious. Alberto Bolzan ITA/Nathan Wilmot AUS started to the last race with an 11 points' lead, but after a bad start, their direct opponent Carlo Fracassoli ITA rushed away and - winning this race - he also overtook Bolzan and is the new World Champion. Riccardo Simoneschi ITA on rank 3 completed the all-Italian podium. Franco Rossini SUI/Flavio Favini ITA missed the Bronze medal by 4 points. The ranking list and the final report.

After an unplanned lay day due to lack of wind, the normal Lake Garda breeze filled in again yesterday and the 129 Melges 24 sailed two races by fleet, the first one in the morning northerly wind - winners Alberto Bolzan ITA and Matteo Balestrero ITA - the second one in the afternoon in a moderate Ora - winners Bora Gulari USA and Carlo Fracassoli ITA. Fracassoli ITA took the overall lead one point ahead of Riccardo Simoneschi ITA and Alberto Bolzan IT. Two more qualification races are on the program today to select the Gold- and Silverfleet participants. The discard coming into effect will have a major influence on the rankings, and Chris Rast USA/SUI e.g. will move up to the top group fighting for the title, provided has repeats his strong performance of yesterday (ranks 3 and 7). Markus Wieser GER follows one point behind, Tommaso del Rio ITA and Ken Yamada JPN share position 3. The usually best SUI boats are back in the overall results, as they failed to bring home two top results: Jean-Marc Monnard SUI (3/21) is 16th, Franco Rossini SUI/Flavio Favini ITA is 17th (1/15), Chris Rast SUI/USA 38th (31/1) - but attention, the Preliminary Overall Results seem to be erroneous in certain ranks/points information. The strong Italian teams meet top helmsmen from the USA, such as the past-Foiler-Moth World Champion Bora Gulari USA or the double USA/SUI passport Olympian Chris Rast. Among the favorites is also the well-known 'Blu Moon' of Franco Rossini SUI with Flavio Favini ITA steering. After an unplanned lay day due to lack of wind, the normal Lake Garda breeze filled in again yesterday and the 129 Melges 24 sailed two races by fleet, the first one in the morning northerly wind - winners Alberto Bolzan ITA and Matteo Balestrero ITA - the second one in the afternoon in a moderate Ora - winners Bora Gulari USA and Carlo Fracassoli ITA. Fracassoli ITA took the overall lead one point ahead of Riccardo Simoneschi ITA and Alberto Bolzan IT. Two more qualification races are on the program today to select the Gold- and Silverfleet participants. The discard coming into effect will have a major influence on the rankings, and Chris Rast USA/SUI e.g. will move up to the top group fighting for the title, provided has repeats his strong performance of yesterday (ranks 3 and 7). The strong Italian teams meet top helmsmen from the USA, such as the past-Foiler-Moth World Champion Bora Gulari USA or the double USA/SUI passport Olympian Chris Rast. Among the favorites is also the well-known 'Blu Moon' of Franco Rossini SUI with Flavio Favini ITA steering. Two races were sailed on the last day of the Melges 24 Worlds on Lake Garda, but the northerly breeze as well as the Ora were quite capricious. Alberto Bolzan ITA/Nathan Wilmot AUS started to the last race with an 11 points' lead, but after a bad start, their direct opponent Carlo Fracassoli ITA rushed away and - winning this race - he also overtook Bolzan and is the new World Champion. Riccardo Simoneschi ITA on rank 3 completed the all-Italian podium. Franco Rossini SUI/Flavio Favini ITA missed the Bronze medal by 4 points. The ranking list and the final report.
