Today begin the Laser Standard and Radial European Championships on Lake d'Hourtin near Bordeaux FRA for Men and Women. As usual, the fleets are large and very international, even with some Olympic hopefuls taking part for a last racing tune-up before the Games. In the Lasers Standard (111 participants, 37 nations) e.g., Julio Alsogaray ARG, Juan Maegli GUA (surprising 5th at the Worlds), Javier Hernandez ESP, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA or Charlie Buckingham USA seize this opportunity. But others, like the big-breeze specialist Philipp Buhl GER, Andrew Maloney NZL or Milan Vujasinovic CRO have chances for a Medal.
In the Lasers Radial Women (83 participants, 26 nations), the two Chinese Lijia XU CHN and Dongshuang Zhang CHN, but also Tina Mihelic CRO, Tatjana Droszdowskaja BLR or Sophie de Turckheim FRA will be the one's to race for the Medals. The Radial Men fleet (101 participants, 21 nations) will be the show place for the future Olympic Laser sailors. To watch are certainly the Croat and Spanish youth.
